Before becoming a haunting presence in low-budget horror films, Candace Hilligoss was just another aspiring actress taking classes at the American Theatre Wing in New York City. Born in Huron, South Dakota, in 1935, she followed her theatrical dreams across the country, performing everywhere from summer stock theaters in Pennsylvania to nightclubs in Copacabana. Her big break came in 1962 when she landed the lead role as a church organist haunted by specters in the cult classic Carnival of Souls - a movie so memorable that it still draws fans today. Along the way, she took on everything from touring productions to television appearances, building a career that would span decades of American cinema and television.
