Before becoming a member of the Momoco Club, Miwa Kawagoe made her singing debut in 1988 with the single "Looking at You". The following year, her fourth single "Yume Dake Miteru" earned her the Rookie of the Year award at the 31st Annual Nihon Record Taishou. While establishing herself as a pop singer, she also launched her acting career, appearing in her first drama, Jiken desu yo Heisei Gannen, and continuing to work in television and film through the 1990s.
